The licensed Equipment Focus module offers the ability to maintain and track equipment within the M5 application. Equipment can be ordered and received using the Unit Purchase Requisition and Unit Purchase Order functionality.
Equipment can be issued (Equipment Check Out), returned (Equipment Check In), and transferred to another Location by using the Equipment Focus Module. The module also includes the ability to associate equipment to a work order for specific work performed as well as the ability to open a Work Order on the equipment itself.
Charging back the use of the equipment for specific work performed on a work order will involve the M5 Billing Module.
Initially, the Equipment Focus Module was centered only on tools. However, tools have now evolved into the term equipment so as not to limit the functionality specifically to tools. A tool is now classified as a type of equipment under the Unit Asset Type, TOOLS.
Tracking a piece of equipment shares many similar characteristics as serialized parts or an individual unit. The main difference between equipment and parts is the ability to loan out a piece of equipment to an individual. The equipment is not charged out in the same way as a part.
There are other ways equipment tracking differs from parts such as the ability to track the equipment by using a SKU number whereas the actual equipment itself will have different manufacturers and ID numbers. An Employee can own a piece of equipment that is used to perform work on work orders, such as Techs that own their own tool box and tools.
Equipment has the option to store and track a serial number. You can group a single tool with others by an SKU number for the purposes of reporting and querying on availability and the location of a certain kind of equipment.
You can also assign equipment to a work order for specific job tasks. Certain types of equipment may need to be repaired so you also have the ability to open work orders for the equipment. Also included is the ability to charge a rental rate for the use of a piece of equipment.
